Description
Charles W. Lindberg was a U.S. Marine who was part of the combat patrol that climbed Mount Suribachi and raised the first of two U.S. flags on the summit during the battle of Iwo Jima.

Of the 40 men in Lindberg’s platoon who mounted Suribachi, 36 would be killed or wounded in action for the island would be secured.
